Sunday, 6.29.08- Camp Sunday @ Mitchell Wesleyan, 9:30 and 11:00
Recap:
FINALLY! One year after beginning recording sessions and after six months of tune up
performances all over Mitchell, I finally got to share "Bricks & Mortar" LIVE with
my home church! A lot of people would probably think, 'well, Jason should have no
problems and be entirely comfortable singin' for the home crowd'. Those people don't
know me very well, nor have they sung in front of my "home crowd". See, most of the
congregation has heard me sing countless times and they've heard me sing these songs
as offertories or as parts of previous concerts. So it was up to me to present "Word
of Hope" and "I am Free" in different ways than I have in the past. Plus we had two
services scheduled for Camp Sunday, so I was expected to share two concerts to vastly
different crowds at 9:30, then at 11:00. I was NERVOUS but I was up to the challenge.
"Spotlight" went off without a hitch (so for those keeping score, that's the FIRST
and SECOND TIME, respectively, that I've played it right live!) and I wrote a transitional song to
sing before WOH: "Jesus, can You hear me?". They really worked well
together, so I'll put that in future repertoire. I got pretty personal in my
testimony preceding "I am Free" because I truly am thankful to my accountability
partners and many loving people at Mitchell Wesleyan for helping me come to grips
with my past (still a work in progress, but aren't we all?). And singing "God is on
the Move" in front of the very church that inspired the song almost made my heart
explode! I was seriously shaking after that one in both services.
Tons of thanks to Pastor Keith Nash, my pastor and my friend. You changed the course
of my life by inviting me to minister at this church 11 years ago! Thank you, young
master Rieck, for being a dedicated and professional audio technician. And many
thanks to those who gave me words of encouragement that morning (especially Vernon
S...I needed to be reminded that I was not alone up there!). In talking with folks
after the concert, I truly began to see that God is indeed on the move in this
community. May we strive to recognize His hand as He moves in our hearts and lives!
