Thursday, 8.14.08- Café Teresa
Recap:
Ah, pizza night! I looove singing at coffee houses when there's lots of activity
going on. Seriously- not being sarcastic! There's a kind of energy amongst those
who are listening...hard to describe, but it's like they're waiting for something
big to happen. And then I show up and they're totally disappointed! Hee hee.
Some singers would be intimidated by the idea of just standing up and singing for
90 minutes, but I think it gives me time to tell stories through the music. I like
to start off with some fast stuff (just to feel out the room, sound-wise), then
enter my "heart of darkness" songs (added in "Say it to me Now" and it KILLED!) that
takes us to my "resolution" songs (Word of Hope, I've always loved you, etc.). And
from there I can get silly, serious, or whatever! It's such a blank slate. Even
better, on this night, people were just stuck waiting for their pizza! Ha ha (that
was maniacal laughter)!!
Seriously, though, this was a fun night! The waiting-for-pizza crowd were actually
very few (and, kudos to Teresa, the wait was not long)...had a LOT of good friends
who came and listened. Thanks to all who stopped by. Special thanks once again to
my good friend, Monsieur Jonah H, for jumping in on an impromptu rendition of "I am
Free/Headcase". We hadn't gotten in contact before the gig, so Jonah just came to
listen but I talked him into playing his cajon part ON MY GUITAR CASE! How awesome
is THAT?!! Jonah, you totally RAWK! I will definitely play Café Teresa again soon.
What was played:
Seize the Day, In the Light/All along the Watchtower, Spotlight,
I hung my head/All I want is you, Falling Slowly, Fire & Rain,
Losin' my voice/Great Light of the World, Say it to me now,
